How did you get started?

There isn't any structured training for locations people. Like everyone in the business, I started off as a trainee and worked my way up. As a trainee I started off doing things like cleaning up after filming everyday. Leaving things as you find them is an important part of location's work. There's a set amount of hours that you have to put in as a trainee, after that it's a matter of finding someone in the business who's willing to upgrade you. Some people never move past this trainee stage, it all depends on the individual, hard work and a little luck.

What did you do before you got into the film industry?

I studied economics before I started training in locations, which was three years ago.

What are you working on right now?

What's an average day in your job like?

"There is no average day." Location's is about logistics, so a lot of our work is in the preparations for filming. This starts months before filming. In locations, we are responsible for everything from organizing permits to minimizing noise and traffic to and from the set. During filming, I am usually 'first in and last to leave'. My day starts between 4 and 5 a.m. and can finish as late as 10 p.m.

What's the best thing about your job?

The variety and the freedom! I also get to see new places and meet lots of different types of people, which I find exciting. You have to be a people person to enjoy this job.
